We always suggest using the HappyCow app to research vegan-friendly places when travelling – you’ll find listings for vegan, vegetarian and veg-options places including chain cafes and restaurants that offer some vegan options. However, we are often asked for our own recommendations so here they are:

Paignton
- All Good Things Vegan: incredibly creative vegan chef Phoenix is based at The Miggi so you can enjoy delicious evening meals, epic afternoon teas, treats, snacks, and handmade gourmet truffles in the comfort of our dining room. Picnic boxes and treats to take home are also available. Check out Phoenix’s Facebook and please do order in advance as everything is made fresh to order. A D V
- Tam’s Kitchen: a 100% vegan café in Winner Street offering vegan fast food during the evening. Sometimes has other events and classes on, so do check their Facebook and book in advance if possible. A D V
- Curious Crumbs: vegan and gluten-free cakes and cookies available at regular stalls at the Paignton Harbour market. A D V
- The London Fryer: our local chippy serving vegan banana blossom “fish”, battered vegan sausages, and looking at adding more vegan options in future. They’re expanding their seating area at present so we’re hoping it will become more accessible. Taking away to the beach or bringing back to The Miggi is an option too. D
- Sara’s at the Beach: blue shack among the beach-huts at Preston Sands, our nearest beach. A few vegan options including a vegan sausage bap, veganisable burger, sweetcorn fritters, and plant-based ice creams. A D
- Rugga Coffee: kiosk under Paignton pier. A proportion of the proceeds go to mental health charities. Usually has one or two vegan bakes, smoothies, and bagels. A D
- Ella’s café: part of Rowcroft charity shop, raising funds for our local hospice. On the Preston shopping street near The Miggi, Ella’s usually has a good choice of vegan cakes and one or two savoury options to have with their salads. Eat in or takeaway to the beach nearby. A D
- Harbour Light: restaurant built into the harbour wall with views across the water. Vegan options include banana blossom fish and chips. A D
- Costero Lounge: branch of the Lounge chain on the seafront near Paignton pier. Open daytime and evening. Separate vegan menu. A D
- Sebastien’s: Deli and Wholefoods shop on Hyde Road. Veggie and vegan fresh foods, pastries, cakes, to take away or eat on a couple of tables in the shop. A D
- Gaia Café: coffee shop in Winner Street, friendly small independent café that roasts its own coffee and hosts various community groups. Good vegan options. A D
- Coffee No 1: part of a small chain, this town centre café has some vegan options. A D
- Shoreline: restaurant on the seafront that backs onto the Vue Cinema and looks out to sea. A few vegan options including pizza, usually a vegan dessert available too. D
- The Ship: Five minutes’ walk from The Miggi, on Manor Road, this chain pub offers reasonably-priced vegan options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. A D
Goodrington
Cantina: At the dog-friendly end of Goodrington Beach, just by the park, Cantina is a very popular café with several vegan options including cake. Seating inside or outside. Live music events some evenings. A D
Broadsands
Venus Cafe: Large menu with a good vegan section. Seating with views across the beach. A D
Torquay
- Indi-Yang: fusion food restaurant with lots of vegan options, including mock meat versions of dishes, naan and so on. A
- Visto Lounge: branch of the Lounge chain on the seafront in Torquay with their usual range of vegan options on a separate menu. A D
Totnes
- Tempt Chocolate Shop: 100% vegan chocolate shop. Fancy hand-made chocolates, luxurious hot chocolates. A D V
- Zappa’s: 100% vegan café on the High Street offering a wide range of dishes, pies, bakes, cakes, and hot dishes. A D V
- The Hairy Barista: vegan coffee shop with toasties, cakes, etc. D V
- Market stalls: when visiting Totnes, check out the market square as there are often food stalls including a 100% vegan Dosa stall that we recommend trying. A D V
Dartington
The Big Kebabski: 100% vegan kebab van that visits Things Happen Here community centre (not far from the Cider Press Craft Centre visitor attraction), usually on Sundays – check their socials for details before travelling. Serves amazing kebab wraps, loaded new potatoes, thai curry (GF option). A D V
