Dog Friendly Holidays

Dogs are welcome at the miggi, and there are fantastic coastal, beach, park, and countryside walks to explore together in Torbay.

Here are some of our favourite guests:

Dogs welcome at the miggi

We have fostered and adopted many rescue dogs over the years so we’re always pleased to meet a new canine friend. Let us know when you book if your dog has any particular needs, and if you’d like us to provide bowls for food and water.

Most dogs do not like to be left alone in a strange new place for very long, so please don’t leave dogs alone in your room for long periods. If you need to go somewhere that isn’t dog-friendly let us know with as much notice as possible – we may be able to dog-sit for you for a small fee.

There are lots of dog-friendly places to visit in Torbay. When you get home you’ll find a stock of old towels for dog-drying, so you can relax and let dogs explore these fantastic walks:

Beaches

Our local seafront: dogs are allowed on Preston lawns (the grassy area that runs the length of the beach) all year, but they are only allowed on Preston Sands beach from the start of October to the end of April. There is a cove just after Preston Sands that is dog-friendly. The nearest all-year large sandy beach is Goodrington Sands North Beach. If your dog loves a beach trip, check out this list – there are 16 Torbay beaches that allow dogs all year round.

Parks

Local parks generally allow dogs, and there are some very pleasant parks in our area, which are shown on this map from Torbay Council.

Coastal and countryside routes

There are many other places to walk with your dog. Torbay Dog Walks lists some routes to explore with your dog and the Countryside Trust suggests some woodland, coastal, and nature reserve areas that are dog-friendly.

Dog-friendly cafes with vegan options in the bay

Our Vegan-Friendly Torbay page has a list of cafes with vegan options and we’ve tried to note those which are also dog-friendly and accessible there.

Cafes that are particularly good for visitors with dogs include:

Friends of the Oldway tearooms – volunteer-run cafe in a house with a fascinating past, surrounded by gardens and green space for walks. The cafe has inside and outdoor seating, a disabled toilet, vegan options including afternoon tea (book in advance). Oldway is just around half a mile from The Miggi.

Cantina – at the edge of Young’s Park by Goodrington Beach, Cantina is a quirky, family-run, dog-friendly and accessible cafe with indoor and outdoor seating areas. This part of the sandy beach allows dogs all year round.

The Guardhouse – Berry Head nature reserve cafe, surrounded by dog-friendly walks with amazing coastal views, indoor and outdoor seating. Level access with a paved path from the parking area, but the parking is a bit of a walk from the cafe for those with reduced mobility.

The Drum Inn – Cockington Village pub with vegan options, near Cockington country park, water meadow walks, and craft centre. Has wheelchair accessible entrance at the side of the building.

Healthcare

Nearby Dart Vale Vets is just a couple of minutes away if your dog is injured or unwell while you are with us.
