We always suggest using the HappyCow app to research vegan-friendly places when travelling – you’ll find listings for vegan, vegetarian and veg-options places.

However, we are often asked for our own list so here it is:

Preston Sands (near The Miggi)

• The London Fryer: our local chippy serves vegan battered sausages and banana blossom “fish”, and looking at adding more vegan options in future. They have a seating area for eating in. You can also take away to the beach or bringing back to The Miggi, or have food delivered too. D
• Ella’s café: part of Rowcroft charity shop, raising funds for our local hospice. On the Preston part of Torquay Road, about 5 minutes walk from The Miggi, Ella’s usually has a a couple of vegan cakes, toasted teacakes and a soup. Oat milk for drinks. Eat in or takeaway to the beach nearby. A D
• The Ship: Five minutes’ walk from The Miggi, on Manor Road, this chain pub offers reasonably-priced vegan options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. A D

• The Boathouse: just 100m from The Miggi on the seafront at Preston Sands beach, with seating inside and out by the sea wall, the Boathouse has a couple of vegan options, including vegan pizza, and oat milk for drinks. A D

Paignton seafront

• Rugga Coffee: kiosk under Paignton pier. A proportion of the proceeds go to mental health charities. Usually has one or two vegan bakes. Oat milk for drinks A D
• Costero Lounge: branch of the Lounge chain on the seafront near Paignton pier. Open daytime and evening. Separate vegan menu. A D
• The pasty shop on the pier has vegan sausage rolls and pasties.
• Shoreline: restaurant on the seafront that backs onto the Vue Cinema and looks out to sea. Unfortunately up a flight of steps, no lift. A few vegan options including pizza, usually a vegan dessert available too. D
• Harbour Light: restaurant built into the harbour wall with views across the water. Lift to upper floor restaurant (can fit a mobility scooter). Vegan options marked on menu include Mediterranian bowl, a dessert, and banana blossom fish and chips. A D

Paignton town centre

• Temptations “80 flavours of ice cream” shop on Torbay Road (just off the seafront as you walk towards Paignton town centre) has a large selection of vegan ice creams and sorbets. Gluten-free cones available, too! A
• Coffee No 1: part of a chain, this town centre café has some vegan options, including giant teacakes, a wrap, and a choice of cakes.  A D

Torquay

• Torre Abbey Cafe vegetarian cafe at the Abbey in Torquay. Inside and outside seating with views across the lawns to the sea. Vegan options include all-day breakfast, paninis, cakes and bakes, milkshakes. A D
• Amici: Town centre, just up from the harbour area. Italian restaurant with separate vegan menu. Very popular so may need to be booked in advance. Indoor and outdoor seating. A D
• Jun Jaow thai restaurant with clearly-marked vegan options
• Rock Garden: town centre pub-restaurant with large beer garden. Vegan options including burgers, pizza, etc. A D
• Visto Lounge: branch of the Lounge chain on the seafront in Torquay with their usual range of vegan options on a separate menu. A D
• Cantina Torquay: cafe-bar near Torre Abbey with vegan options. A D

Goodrington

Cantina: At the dog-friendly end of Goodrington Beach, just by the park, Cantina is a very popular café with several vegan options including cakes. Seating inside or outside. A D

Broadsands

Venus Cafe: Large menu with a good vegan section. Seating right next to the beach with some accessible seating. A D

Brixham

Old Market House: overlooking Brixham harbour, this large cafe-bar is part of the same chain as Harbour Light in Paignton, offering several vegan options. A D

Trick or Treat quirky painting cafe makes a mean vegan hot chocolate.

Le Petite Maison: French Bistro on the quayside with a few vegan options.

Porridge health food shop serves coffee and bakes

The Larder cafe next door to Trace-less plastic-free shop. Lovely garden and good vegan options A D

Totnes

• Tempt Chocolate Shop: 100% vegan chocolate shop. Fancy hand-made chocolates, luxurious hot chocolates. A D V
• Dosa stall at the market: highly recommended all-vegan dosa stall at Totnes Market in the civic square (not everyday) A D V
• Seeds 2: vegetarian buffet cafe on the High Street. Mix of hot and cold dishes, most vegan – fill and refill your plate. A D
• The Hairy Barista: vegetarian coffee shop with vegan options including toasties, croissants, platters, cakes. Seating inside and in a large garden at the back. About 3 steps up to the front door. D

• China Blue: on the road between Totnes and Dartington, China Blue is a large gift shop, paint-your-own ceramics studio, and café with vegan options. Free parking. A D
